5 Small Things To Improve Your Life


New Year, New Me, Old Cliches
If you keep up with my blog, you know I’m over dramatic, but when I say 2016 was the worst year of my life I’m being sincere. I won’t go into details about why it was the worst, because it’s tasteless and pity isn’t a good look for anyone. I was waiting for things to improve organically, but it’s time I actively take steps toward bettering myself. It’s a new year and I encourage you to do the same. Why be bad or even okay when you could be happy? Do these small daily improvements with me and we can have a good 2017 together.

1. Subscribe to Word of The Day
Merriam-Webster and Dictionary.com both offer Word of the Day’s in your email. I’ll admit, if I let them pile up they’re more of a hassle instead of a life improvement. But, if you make it a part of your night time or morning routine it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with new words.


2. Have Fresh Nails and Stay Groomed
I feel so much more confident and clean with fresh nails, shaved legs, plucked eyebrows; just staying groomed. It’s easy to say “I don’t have time for that”, but you need to make yourself a priority and spend a little time on maintenance. When I do these things, I do them with the intention of making me feel good, not to impress anyone else.



3. Replace Reality TV with Documentaries
I grew up during the beginning and height of reality TV. I am obsessed, but I resent it. Reality TV promotes negative stereotypes and roles and also kills creativity. Why have a well-written and produced show, when for much cheaper and easier you can throw middle-aged women in a vacation spot...have them fight...and call it the Real Housewives franchise? But, I’m so enamored with the drama and the lightheartedness of it all. So, I’m doing my best in 2017 to slowly stop watching reality TV and replace it with documentaries. Documentaries are an easier way to get information, but you’re still learning something. As opposed to reality TV where you’re learning how to be stupid.
4. Drink Water
Everyone preaches the importance of water...BECAUSE IT’S IMPORTANT. Drink more water and your body will feel better. It’ll flush out the toxins, give you more energy, and keep you up and running. It’s a small addition to your routine that will improve your life tremendously.

5. Throw Things Away
Start to de-clutter. Everyday, pick a spot in your room, in your house, in your office, and throw things away. Donate. Organize. Even just clean your email, or the folders in your computer, or delete notes in your phone. Being in a clean environment makes you feel good.


Progress, Not Perfection
I saw something online about “progress, not perfection” and it really resonated with me. The reason I quit things is because if it's not perfect and going to plan I get frustrated. It takes time to bring change into your life. So, this year is all about gaining mental strength. Keep up with my blog this year, because I’m changing my lifestyle and will be documenting it.
